Let's get one thing out of the way first: we love the industry incumbents. We've lost entire evenings to them. They're the granddaddies of internet trivia, and they earned that crown. So consider this less of a diss track and more of a friendly nudge from the new kid on the block.
Because here's the thing: we think sports trivia deserves a home of its own. Not a category tucked between geography and 'Just For Fun'. A whole stadium.
We're two people, not a boardroom
All of Sportagories is made by a husband-and-wife pair. That's it. That's the org chart.
We're avid sports fans and hopeless tech enthusiasts, and our idea of a perfect night out is a pub quiz, ideally one where we're arguing over whether a golden goal counts as extra time. We built Sportagories because we wanted the site we couldn't find: fast, fun, obsessively about sport, and made by people who actually yell at the TV on weekends.
Being a two-person team means no committees, no quarterly roadmap reviews, no 'synergy'. When you email us with an idea, the person reading it is the person who can ship it, sometimes that same week. Try getting that from a corporation.
Sport isn't our category. It's our everything.
Big trivia sites are generalists by design. They have to be great at movie quizzes and world capitals and 90s cartoons all at once. We only have to be great at one thing, so every ounce of effort goes into sport.
That focus shows up in the games themselves. Grid games, Connections, Higher/Lower, Rolodex, Chains, player pickers, weekly challenges: formats built around how sports fans actually think, from rosters and stats to rivalries and that one transfer nobody saw coming.
The pub quiz spirit, minus the sticky table
Our favourite trivia has always been the kind you play with mates: a bit competitive, a bit chaotic, and nobody's filling out a survey afterwards. That's the energy we're chasing. Less corporate quiz platform, more last round at your local, where the tiebreaker question starts an argument that outlives the evening.
So the site is playful on purpose. Weekly streaks you'll actually care about, leaderboards worth trash-talking over, and questions written by fans who know the difference between a nutmeg and a panenka.
What being small buys you
No investors to impress means no dark patterns to hit growth targets. No content farm means every quiz gets the care of someone who'd be embarrassed to publish a lazy one. And because we play our own games every week (current household record: disputed), quality control is built into the marriage.
We won't out-catalogue the giants, not this year anyway. But we'll out-care them. Every feature on this site exists because two sports nerds wanted it to.
Come say hi
If you've ever wished trivia felt less like a content platform and more like your favourite pub quiz, you're exactly who we built this for. Try a weekly challenge, start a streak, and tell us what we should build next. We're small enough to actually listen.
With respect to the big guys: thanks for paving the road. We'll be the ones speeding past in the tiny car with the foam finger out the window.
