Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Sportagories ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use our sports trivia website and related services. If you have questions, contact us at support@sportagories.com.
Who we are
Sportagories is a sports trivia site. We offer trivia games, account features, and community content. Our contact email is support@sportagories.com.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
- Identifiers: email address, account or user id, display name, and an optional profile photo when you create an account.
- Profile information you choose to add: handle, bio, favorite teams and sports, and country.
- Gameplay and usage data: quiz scores, streaks, game progress, and similar activity tied to your account or device session.
- Billing data (subscribers): payments are processed by Stripe. We store a Stripe customer id and subscription status. We never store full card numbers.
- Technical, log, and cookie data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and cookies used for sign-in, preferences, analytics, and advertising (where enabled).
- Visitor identifier: a random first-party identifier stored in a cookie on your device. We use it to avoid showing you the same sign-up prompt too often, and to measure how many visitors go on to create an account. It is not linked to any information you have not given us, and it is not shared with anyone outside the service. For this measurement we do not store your IP address: it is shortened to a network range, converted into a one-way code, and never used to work out your location.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Run the games and deliver the Sportagories experience.
- Save your progress, stats, streaks, and account settings.
- Manage subscriptions.
- Keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- Understand how the product is used and improve it over time.
How we share your information
We use service providers to operate the site. They process data on our behalf and only as we instruct them:
- Google Firebase for authentication, database, and hosting.
- Stripe for payment processing and subscription management.
- Google Analytics for usage analytics (when you have accepted optional cookies and have not opted out).
- Meta Pixel for measuring visits and advertising campaign performance (when you have accepted optional cookies and have not opted out). We currently send PageView events only.
- Google AdSense for advertising on the free tier (when you have accepted optional cookies and have not opted out).
We do not sell your personal information for money.
However, use of advertising and analytics cookies may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under California law, including for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you are a California resident, you can opt out at any time on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, which we honor.
Affiliate links
Sportagories may earn a commission when you buy through a marked Fanatics affiliate link. When you choose to follow that link, your browser connects to Impact, our affiliate tracking provider, and then to Fanatics. Those services receive the connection information your browser sends and may use cookies under their own privacy policies to attribute purchases. We do not include your account information or quiz answers in the affiliate link. Displaying our text affiliate offers does not load affiliate images or tracking pixels.
With your permission for optional cookies, some pages also show Fanatics graphics served by Impact with impression tracking. These requests send connection information to Impact when the graphics are displayed. We do not load this affiliate media when you choose necessary cookies only, opt out of sale or sharing, or enable GPC. You can withdraw permission for this affiliate media through our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. The graphics and tracking do not include your account details or quiz answers.
Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) give you the right to:
- Know / access: request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Delete: request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of sale / sharing: opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit use of sensitive personal information: we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes that require a limit option under CPRA.
- Non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
How to exercise your rights
Signed-in users can download their data, opt out of sale/sharing, and delete their account from the Account page. Anyone can use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page to opt out on the current browser. You may also email support@sportagories.com to submit a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential functions (keeping you signed in, remembering gameplay state) and, with your consent, for analytics and advertising.
- Necessary cookies are required for core site functionality.
- Analytics and advertising cookies help us measure traffic and show ads on the free tier. They load only if you accept cookies in our consent banner and have not opted out on the Do Not Sell or Share page.
You can change optional cookie choices via the consent banner and the Do Not Sell page linked above.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records by law.
Visitor data collected before or without an account has its own fixed limits, because account lifetime says nothing about a visitor who never signs up. The visitor identifier and its record are deleted automatically 400 days after we last see it. The individual measurement events tied to it are deleted automatically after 90 days. Counts that carry no identifier at all (for example, how many people saw a prompt on a given day) are kept indefinitely as anonymous totals.
Children
Sportagories is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at support@sportagories.com and we will take steps to delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
This policy is provided for transparency and is not legal advice.
